Top Three: Movie Subtitles
Ranking the best secondary names of films
It’s time to get serious about the ultimate ranking of fiction and pop culture’s most important subjects.
Top Three: Movie Subtitles
No closed captioning needed!
Number Three: Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. In 1997, moviegoers were treated to not “the” Power Rangers movie, but, you know, “a” Power Rangers movie. Out of all the Power Rangers movies, this is one of them.
Number Two: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. I like alliteration as much as the next guy, but this made the film sound silly. No matter what your opinion of the 2016 spinoff-film is, referring to it as “a” Star Wars story made it sound less important. 2018’s “Solo” reused the subtitle and after that prequel tanked, Star Wars stories stuck with streaming series for a long while.
Number One: Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. In 2024, yet another “A” spinoff/prequel was unleashed upon cinemas, and this time it was a whole saga. I always thought of sagas to be multiple entries, but this is the desert wasteland where there are no rules. Well, there is one rule - have fun! Okay, there’s one last rule - make a Mad Max movie that’s not about Mad Max.
Let me know your top picks in the comments. Or just tell me I’m a big silly dum-dum.
