Team Five: Speedsters and speed freaks—-unexpected and controversial choices for fast-moving characters.
The Flash/Wally West (DC Comics)
Thor Odinson (Marvel comics)
Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D)
Green Lantern/Kyle Rayner (DC Comics)
Fictional heroes, villains, and everyone in between have formed unlikely alliances to answer a common calling: which group of kindred characters is the mightiest of them all? United by a shared theme, troops of four fabulous fictional characters will figuratively compete in a tournament of television, movie, and literature’s finest where only one foursome can be crowned kings and queens of popular entertainment. Join in on the roll call to learn more about these similar characters and delve into their individual histories. It's time to assemble the analogous all-stars and find out who is the best, one team at a time.
These may be scandalous picks: The Green Lantern power ring allows the wearer to travel at incredibly fast speeds through space; Mjolnir carries Thor at hyper-fast speeds. Roy Harper/Speedy was on speed so he is an honorary member.
Fast Four, assemble!
4. Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez
First appearance: (in comics) The Mighty Avengers #13, July 2008; (in live action) Agents of SHIELD (season 3, episode 11, “Bouncing Back”), March 2016
Popular entertainment of 2016:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows - film starring Megan Fox and Will Arnett
Stranger Things - television series starring Finn Wolfhard and Winona Ryder
The Hidden Oracle (The Trials of Apollo #1) - novel by Rick Riordan
Initially appearing as a comic book character, created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Alex Maleev, the superhero called Slingshot would eventually make the leap to live action. Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD television series may not be considered part of the official canon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but its characters continue to live on in fans’ memory. One standout SHIELD operative, Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez (played by Natalia Cordova-Buckley), was introduced in the third season of the show as an Inhuman from Colombia with the ability to move at super-speed, but only within the distance she can travel in a single heartbeat—after which she instantly returns to her starting point. It doesn’t take long for Rodriguez to prove herself as a skilled and principled ally, joining S.H.I.E.L.D. as a trusted member of their Secret Warriors initiative. Over the course of the series, “Yo-Yo” becomes a core agent, facing personal and physical challenges, including the traumatic loss of her arms. Later, her limbs would be replaced with advanced cybernetic prosthetics, not too unlike the team’s embattled leader, Phil Coulson (played by Clark Gregg). Rodriguez also develops a close relationship with Agent Mack (played by Henry Simmons), the squad’s resident powerhouse and skilled mechanical engineer. By the end of the series, “Yo-Yo” rises to the leadership ranks within S.H.I.E.L.D., robot hands and all.
This fast foursome is a controversial collection of unconventional speedsters, and they’ll need to find a way to work together to compete against another oddball squad in a surprising matchup.
